Chapter 116·The village women ask Sītā·Verses 1–
The lovely pair cannot be described; the beauty is great and my mind is small. Everyone looked at Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā's beauty with fixed mind and heart. The men and women grew still, thirsty for love, like deer that have seen a lamp. The village women went near Sītā and asked, shyly and tenderly. Again and again they touched her feet and spoke soft, simple, kind words: princess, we plead with you; women have natural fears when they ask. Mistress, forgive our rudeness; do not mind, knowing we are rustic women. These two princes are naturally charming, and from them the emerald and gold took their brightness. The dohā: dark and fair, young, best and lovely, a home of beauty; their faces like the autumn moon, their eyes like autumn lotuses.
