काम क्रोध लोभादि मद
Pleased, Nārada asks gently about an old matter. When Rāma sent his māyā to bewilder Nārada, Nārada had wished to marry: why did the Lord not let him? Rāma says: those who worship me and give up all other trust, I always guard, as a mother guards her child. A child may run to take a fire or a snake, and the mother keeps it away. When the son grows, she no longer holds the old matter against him. To me the wise are like grown sons, and the humble servants like infants. A servant has my strength as his own, and for both of them lust and anger are the enemy. Thinking of this, the wise worship me and do not give up devotion even when they have knowledge. Lust, anger, greed and pride are strong streams of delusion, and among them the most terrible and painful is woman, as the form of māyā.रघुनाथ को अति प्रसन्न जानकर नारद ने मृदु वाणी में कहा, हे राम, जब आपने अपनी माया भेजकर मुझे मोहित किया था, तब मैंने विवाह करना चाहा था; प्रभु ने किस कारण नहीं करने दिया? राम ने कहा, मुनि, मैं तुझसे प्रसन्नता से कहता हूँ: जो सब भरोसे छोड़कर मुझे भजते हैं, उनकी मैं सदा रखवाली करता हूँ, जैसे माता बालक की रखवाली करती है। बच्चा आग या साँप पकड़ने दौड़े तो माता उसे वहाँ से हटा देती है। जब वह बड़ा हो जाता है तो माँ उस पर पहले जैसा स्नेह नहीं करती। मेरे लिए ज्ञानी प्रौढ़ पुत्र के समान हैं और अभिमान रहित दास बालक पुत्र के समान। दास को मेरा बल अपना बल है और ज्ञानी को अपना बल; दोनों के लिए काम और क्रोध शत्रु हैं। यह विचारकर पंडित मुझे भजते हैं और ज्ञान पाकर भी भक्ति नहीं छोड़ते। काम, क्रोध, लोभ और मद मोह की प्रबल धाराएँ हैं; इनमें माया रूपी नारी अत्यन्त दारुण दुःख देने वाली है।

जब पुत्र बड़ा हो जाता है, तब माता उस पर पुरानी बात के कारण पहले जैसा स्नेह नहीं करती। मेरे लिए ज्ञानी प्रौढ़ पुत्र के समान हैं और अभिमान रहित दास बालक पुत्र के समान।

सेवक को मेरा बल अपना बल है और ज्ञानी को अपना बल; दोनों के लिए काम और क्रोध शत्रु हैं। यह विचारकर पंडित मुझे भजते हैं और ज्ञान पाकर भी भक्ति नहीं छोड़ते।
The servant has my strength as his strength, and the wise man has his own strength; for both of them lust and anger are enemies. Thinking of this, wise people worship me, and even when they gain knowledge they do not give up devotion.
