Why the sacred-thread vidhan for Brahmarakshas is sattvic and has no side effect
A worship of Sadashiva, not a tantra prayoga
The speaker first asks anyone suffering from Brahmarakshas dosha to show themselves to a qualified, experienced sadhak. He says today's vidhan has no adverse effect of any kind because it is not a prayoga at all but a vidhan of worshipping Sadashiva, the one form of Mahadeva who has the full capacity to pacify every kind of dosha; however strong a Brahmarakshas, by the grace of Shiva, of Rudra, it is either pacified or bound. He calls it a small vidhan that anyone can do, a sattvic prayoga rather than a tantra prayoga, meant to please Mahashiva and to make a request of him, and says that because it is not a tantra vidhan only peace can come of it.
The speaker says today's subject is out of the ordinary, and he begins with a request: whoever is suffering from the kind of dosha called Brahmarakshas dosha should first of all show themselves to a qualified and experienced sadhak, someone who knows. Even so, he says, today's prayoga has no adverse effect of any kind, because it is not a prayoga; it is a vidhan of the worship of Sadashiva himself. Bhagavan Sadashiva, he says, is the one deity, the one form of Mahadeva, the one form of Ishvara, who holds the full capacity to pacify every kind of dosha. However powerful a Brahmarakshas may be, by the grace of Shiva, by the grace of Rudra, it is either pacified or bound. He notes that Brahma DoshaThe affliction caused by a Brahmarakshas present in a home or on a person — present in either a manifest, possessing form or a normal form that resides in the body without possessing it. is of many kinds, which he has discussed in four or five earlier videos. He describes what follows as a small vidhan that anyone can do, and asks the listener to understand it fully before beginning. Later he repeats that it is not a tantra prayoga of any kind but a sattvic prayoga, done to please Mahashiva, in which a request is somewhere made to him. At the close he says again that since it is no vidhan of tantra, only peace will come from it.
Kinds of Brahma: some give pain, some only block success
Not one type but many
The speaker says the first question is how many kinds of Brahmarakshas there are, and answers that there is not one kind but many. Some Brahmas give pain; others stay without giving pain but never let one's work succeed. He adds that many times, even after showing oneself at many Brahma seats, one gets no release, because destiny has decided that this Brahma Dosha must be suffered in this life.
The speaker says the first thing that comes up is how many kinds of Brahmarakshas exist. A Brahmarakshas, he says, is not of one type; it is of many types. Some Brahmas, he says, give pain. Some Brahmas stay and do not give pain, but they never let you get success in your work. He adds that many times a person shows himself at a number of Brahma seats and still gets no release; in such a case destiny has decided that this Brahma DoshaThe affliction caused by a Brahmarakshas present in a home or on a person — present in either a manifest, possessing form or a normal form that resides in the body without possessing it. has to be suffered in this life, and it is for that state that he gives the vidhan that follows.
When to take refuge in Sadashiva for a Brahma dosha: Rudrabhishek if one can afford it, the sacred-thread vidhan if not
Only when the Brahma is angry and nothing else pacifies it
The speaker says that when destiny has fixed that a Brahma Dosha must be suffered, one should accept the sharanagati of Sadashiva. If one still has the financial capacity, he says, get a Rudrabhishek done with the Sankalpa that it is for the peace of this dosha. If one cannot manage even that and has no capacity left at all, then this thread vidhan should be done. He stresses that it is to be done only when the Brahma is displeased and angry and is not being pacified by any means.
The speaker says that in the state where destiny has decided a Brahma DoshaThe affliction caused by a Brahmarakshas present in a home or on a person — present in either a manifest, possessing form or a normal form that resides in the body without possessing it. must be suffered, one should accept the sharanagati of Sadashiva. If there is still financial capacity, he says, get a Rudrabhishek done, taking the SankalpaA formal ritual resolution spoken aloud before an offering or observance, declaring its intent and dedicating its merit. that it is being done for the pacification of this dosha. If one cannot get even that done, if no capacity at all is left, then at that time this prayoga should be done. He adds a condition on timing: this prayoga is to be done only when the Brahma is displeased, angry, and not being pacified through any means.
Why a Brahma is pacified by a janeu: the items that bind or seat a Brahma
Janeu, khadau, langot and flag; a bal Brahma past twelve demands the thread
The speaker says a Brahma is always pacified by a janeu. Of a bal Brahma two things are said: one, that after crossing twelve years of age it demands a janeu; and, depending on circumstances, it often happens that an old Brahma comes angered for some reason and creates various obstructions in the body, or has been sent through Abhichara. Whatever the kind of Brahma, he says, whenever it is to be bound or seated, the janeu, khadau, Langot and flag are all extremely important.
The speaker says that a Brahma is always pacified by a janeu. About a bal Brahma, a child Brahma, he says two things are said. One is that after it becomes more than twelve years old it demands a janeu. And, he says, it depends on circumstances: very often an old Brahma, angered for some reason, comes and produces obstructions of various kinds in the body and so on, and very often such a Brahma has been sent in Abhichara. Whatever kind of Brahma it is, he says, whenever it is to be bound or made to sit, the janeu, the khadau, the LangotThe loincloth offered to Hanuman and Bhairav. and the flag are all extremely important in that.
Only a praan-pratishthit Shivling in a properly established temple, never one left under a Peepal
Where the thread vidhan may be done
The speaker says that when the Brahma is angry and not pacified by any means, one should go to a Shiva temple where the Shivling has had Prana Pratishtha. He says the prayoga must not be done near a Shivling that someone picked up and placed under a Peepal tree, or someone else's Shivling from someone's house kept somewhere; only where a Shiva temple has been established with proper vidhi and the Shivling is praan-pratishthit should it be done.
The speaker says that at such a time, when the Brahma is not being pacified, one should go to any Shiva temple where the ShivlingThe aniconic form of Lord Shiva worshipped at home and in temples. has been given Prana Pratishtha. The prayoga is not to be done, he says, near a Shivling that somebody picked up and set down under a PeepalA sacred fig tree dedicated to Lord Dattatreya — Pitru Tarpan performed beneath it calms agitated ancestral spirits causing domestic unrest. tree, or somebody else's Shivling, one from someone's house, that is lying there; not at places like that. Only where the Shivling is praan-pratishthit and the Shiva temple has been established with proper vidhi, he says, is the prayoga to be done.
Items for the sacred-thread vidhan and how they are prepared at home
Two plain janeu, earthen pot, raw cow milk, a brass lota, never copper
The speaker lists only four things: a pair of plain white janeu, one earthen pot, raw cow milk, and one lota of water. The vidhan applies to both states of a Brahma Dosha, whether the Brahma is manifest and playing on the body so that no one can control the person, or quiet, not playing but present on the body and troubling. It is done early in the morning. The lota must always be brass, never copper, filled with plain water and a little Gangajal; the raw milk is poured into the earthen pot, both janeu are first washed with Gangajal and dropped into that milk, and the pot is carried to the temple.
The speaker says a pair of janeu is needed, two janeu, and both must be plain, white. Along with them one earthen pot, raw cow milk, and one lota of water. That is all one has to take, he says. The vidhan is for whoever carries the pain of a Brahmarakshas, a Brahma DoshaThe affliction caused by a Brahmarakshas present in a home or on a person — present in either a manifest, possessing form or a normal form that resides in the body without possessing it., in either of two states: where it is manifest, has started playing on the body and nobody can manage the person, and where it is quiet, not playing, but is on the body and causing trouble. Both, he says, are covered. It is to be done early in the morning. The lota of water, he says, must always be brass; take care of this, the prayoga is not to be done with a copper lota. In the brass lota take plain water and add a little GangajalWater from the Ganges, used to purify and re-consecrate ritual items exposed to impurity.. Fill the earthen pot with the raw cow milk. Wash both janeu first with Gangajal, drop them into the earthen pot of milk, and bring it along to the temple.
The sankalpa at the temple, and who may offer a janeu to Sadashiva directly
Without one's own yajnopavita the offering goes through the pujari
The speaker says that on reaching the temple one takes water in the hand and says, as a Sankalpa, that for the peace of the Brahma dosha in one's house one resolves to offer a Yajnopavita to Sadashiva, and asks Sadashiva to accept it and pacify that Brahma; nothing more. But he says that in the Vedic vidhi not everyone can offer a yajnopavita to Sadashiva: only one whose own yajnopavita has been done can offer one to any deity. Anyone else changes the sankalpa to say that the yajnopavita will be offered to Sadashiva through a brahmin, the pujari, and then says nothing to the brahmin except "Pandit ji, please offer the janeu to Baba".
After coming into the temple, the speaker says, one takes water in the hand and first of all says: for the peace of this Brahma dosha that is in my house, O Sadashiva, I take the SankalpaA formal ritual resolution spoken aloud before an offering or observance, declaring its intent and dedicating its merit. of offering you a YajnopavitaThe sacred thread ceremony marking initiation into Vedic rites (Janeu) — if lapsed across generations, expiation (Prayashchitta) for each known generation is required before it can be resumed.; O Sadashiva, accept the yajnopavita and be gracious to pacify that Brahma. Only this much is to be said; he calls it an entirely ordinary vidhi. Then he raises a point: if one goes by the Vedic vidhi, not every person can offer a yajnopavita to Sadashiva. Only if one's own yajnopavita has been done can one offer it to any deity; if it has not, one cannot. In that case, he says, take the sankalpa differently. With water in the hand, resolve: O Sadashiva, I take the sankalpa of offering you the yajnopavita through a brahmin, through the pujari ji; please accept it and grant peace. And to the brahmin one says nothing about any of this; one only tells him, "Pandit ji, please offer the janeu to Baba."
Offering the two threads: one for Sadashiva, one for the Brahma's peace through him
Nothing goes to the entity directly, so no laag can form
The speaker says the pujari, if he notices, may ask why the janeu is soaked in raw milk; so before handing them over, take the threads out onto a plate or into the hand and keep the milk with you. When the pujari offers the first janeu, it is offered for Sadashiva. The second is given while saying in the mind: O Sadashiva, for the peace of that Brahma shakti present in our house I am offering this to you alone, please pacify it through yourself; thus the second janeu goes for the Brahma, to Sadashiva through the pujari. He adds that if you yourself wear a janeu there is no worry of Laag here, because nothing is reaching the Brahma directly as worship through you; everything has been offered to Shiva.
The speaker says a little depends on the pujari: if he understands what is going on he may say, "why is the janeu wet with milk, why is it soaked in raw milk?" So before giving them to him, take the janeu out and keep them on a plate or in your own hand and give them that way, and the milk stays there with you. When the pujari offers the janeu to Baba, the first janeu is offered for the sake of Sadashiva. The second janeu you give while saying in the mind: O Sadashiva, for the peace of that Brahma shakti present in our house, I am offering this to you alone through your own means; please, through yourself, pacify it. In that way, he says, the second janeu is offered for the sake of that Brahma, to Sadashiva through the pujari ji. He adds a reassurance for those who wear a janeu themselves: in this, the Brahma is not receiving worship directly through you, so there is no worry of a Laag forming. The things have been offered to Shiva.
Raw milk over the Shivling for the Brahma's peace, then a water abhishek
What is done with the milk after the threads
The speaker says that after the threads have been offered to Shiva, the raw milk in which they lay is poured over Sadashiva's Shivling, offering it with the words: O Sadashiva, accept this and pacify that Brahma. After that an abhisheka with water is done. If one wishes, a Deepak and Dhoop may be lit; then one bows and comes away.
Once the threads have been offered to Shiva, the speaker says, take the raw milk and pour it over the ShivlingThe aniconic form of Lord Shiva worshipped at home and in temples. of Sadashiva, offering it to him with the words: O Sadashiva, please accept this and pacify that Brahma. Saying this, pour the raw milk over him, and after that do an abhishekaA ceremonial bathing of a deity’s image or symbol, usually with water and other prescribed substances. with water. If one wants to light a lamp, he says, light a DeepakThe lamp lit for worship, of ghee or oil according to the vidhi., DhoopIncense offered during worship; its smoke is treated as an offering in its own right within the sequence of upacharas. and so on; then do pranam and come away.
Energising the threads with the Brahma-krita Shiva Stotram before offering
All eight verses, five times over each thread, in the temple
The speaker says that to do the vidhan in a more special way, the janeu to be offered is made abhimantrit. Those who wear a Yajnopavita can do it with the yajnopavita mantra; but whether they do or not, they should recite the brahma-krita-shiva-stotram at least five times over each janeu, which brings very great benefit for the peace of this dosha. This is done in the temple, from a printed PDF or, better, from memory: sitting before Shiva, take one janeu in the hand and recite the complete stotra, all eight verses from beginning to end, which counts as one recitation; do it five times, put the janeu back in the milk, take out the second and do the same, then pray and take both out, and either offer them one by one yourself or have the pandit do it.
To do this by a more special vidhi, the speaker says, the janeu that is to be offered is made abhimantrit. If you wear a YajnopavitaThe sacred thread ceremony marking initiation into Vedic rites (Janeu) — if lapsed across generations, expiation (Prayashchitta) for each known generation is required before it can be resumed., you can do it with the yajnopavita mantra. Whether you do or not, he says, recite the stotra called the brahma-krita-shiva-stotram at least five times over each janeu; if you recite it, you will get very great benefit for the peace of this dosha. As to when: it is done in the temple. Either download the stotra as a PDF, take a printout, and sit and recite there, or, best of all, learn it by heart. The method: the janeu is brought from home in the milk, but when you sit in the temple in front of Shiva ji, take one janeu in the hand and recite the whole mantra, all eight verses, from the beginning to the end. That is one recitation. Do it five times, then put the janeu back into the milk. Take out the second janeu, recite over it, and put it back in the milk. Then, after prayer and the rest, take both janeu out properly. If you are offering them yourself, do it one by one as told; otherwise give them to the pandit ji and have it done. He says the stotra is linked in the description, or will be written out for people to keep.
What the offering does: an angry Brahma of any yoni, even deva yoni, calms down
Ugrata subsides whatever caused it; keep praying to Sadashiva
The speaker says that when the energised threads are offered, peace comes into the ugrata of the entity present in the house. Whether it is a Brahma pishach or a Brahmarakshas, of whatever yoni, even of deva yoni, if it has turned ugra for any reason, whether through a thought, through some thoughtless activity, or through some mistake of yours, peace will come into it. He says one must keep praying to Sadashiva again and again.
The speaker explains what results from the offering. When the threads are offered, he says, peace will come into the ugrata, the fierceness, of the one present in the house. Be it a Brahma pishach or a Brahmarakshas, of whichever yoni it is, even if it is of deva yoni, if it has turned ugra for any reason at all, whether because of a thought, because of some thoughtless activity, or because of some mistake of yours, peace will come into it. And, he says, you must pray to Sadashiva again and again.
Abhishek water with wood-rubbed chandan applied to the afflicted person's forehead
The last step, done while reciting the stotra
The speaker gives the last step: when the abhisheka with milk and water is done, a little of the water that falls down from over Shiva ji is brought back in one's own vessel. In that water real Chandan, the kind rubbed from wood, is ground, and that chandan is applied to the forehead of the person who has the Brahma dosha or on whom it is coming, while reciting this same brahma-krita-shiva-stotram of Sadashiva.
One last thing remains, the speaker says. When you do the abhishekaA ceremonial bathing of a deity’s image or symbol, usually with water and other prescribed substances. with milk and water and the rest, the water that falls down from over Shiva ji: take a little of that water in your own vessel and bring it back. In that same water, he says, grind real ChandanSandalwood paste, offered and applied in worship for its cooling, purifying quality., the proper chandan that is rubbed from the wood. Apply that chandan to the forehead of the person on whom the Brahma dosha is, or on whom it is coming, and apply it while reciting this same brahma-krita-shiva-stotram of Sadashiva.
Precaution: the thread vidhan only buys time; do not experiment on your own with an ugra Brahma
If there is the slightest doubt, do it with a qualified person or not at all
The speaker calls this an ordinary, small prayoga: through it one gets a little peace, the entity's ugrata lessens, and one gains time to do something else. He says these things are quite ugra, so one should not do much experimenting on one's own; through Mahadeva things can be calmed, and only that has been told here. If there is even the slightest doubt in the mind about whether one can do it or whether some trouble might come, do not do it at all, or do it with the help of a qualified, knowledgeable person. He says causes differ from person to person and what he tells is told in common; if one lacks faith or feels fear, take a qualified person's advice, but with full faith one may certainly do it, and since it is not a tantra vidhan only peace will come.
The speaker sums up: in this way one can do an ordinary, small prayoga. Through it, he says, you will get a little peace, its ugrata will come down, and you will get time to do something more. Even so, he says, these things are quite ugra, so one should not do very much experimenting by oneself; but through Mahadeva, things can be calmed, and only that has been told here. Still, he says, if there is even a little doubt in your mind, a suspicion about whether you will be able to do it or not, whether there might be some trouble, then do not do it at all; do it with the help of a qualified, knowledgeable person. He says he is obliged to say this because the cause can be different for everyone, and who is in what situation with whom cannot be told from where he sits; what he tells is told in a common way. If you do not have faith, or there is fear, take a qualified person's advice; if you have full faith and want to do it properly, then certainly do it. Since there is no vidhan of tantra in it, he says, you will receive only peace.
