Nārada's hymn to Kṛṣṇa as Gopāla, the cowherd boy of Vṛndāvana. Every verse is a picture: his body dark as a new rain-cloud, his eyes like blue lotuses, his curly hair bound with peacock feathers, the forest garland of kadamba flowers, the swinging gold earrings, the pearl necklace, the crown and armlets, the yellow cloth fluttering in the breeze; the flute at his lips that steals the hearts of the cowherd girls; the games in the Yamunā, the rest under the kadamba, the jewelled pavilion, the rāsa dance on Govardhana; the mountain held up on his left hand against Indra's rain; the cows and calves gazing at him, the cowherds singing his name, and the sages praising him with loving words.
