Why a kuldevi idol resists being lifted from a long-worshipped home
The speaker cites a News18 report from Joshimath, where people were leaving their homes: a Brahmin family's Kuldevi idol would not lift from its place, and when they tried to carry it away it felt as if someone were pushing them back. He says the main reason is that long, rule-bound, devoted worship of Bhagwati, the ishta and the kul shaktis at one spot also nourishes the deities of that place, because in every Swastivachan, yajna or Havan an ahuti is offered in the name of the sthan devata too. Those local deities do not want the shaktis to leave, since through the family they were being fed.
Are there places where one should not stay on that night?
The speaker says that in the region of Himachal and of Uttarakhand there are many temples where it is current that on this night, after a certain hour, no ordinary human should stay at that place. Joshimath and Kalimath carry a great deal of such well-known matter.
