Yamunashtakam — A prayer to the daughter of Kalinda to wash the mind clean

The river is the colour of Kṛṣṇa's body, her bank-breeze takes away the weariness of the dance, and her water carries the paste and the champaka flowers that fall from the two who play in it. Yet every verse comes back to the same line, a plain request to the daughter of Kalinda.

English sense

She carries water as dark and lovely as the body of Murāri. She has made heaven seem like a blade of grass, and she takes away the sorrow of the three worlds. Her banks please the mind, and her thick groves shake off bad pride. May the daughter of Kalinda always wash away the dirt of our minds.

Variant reading One text reads धुनोतु मे (may she wash away my...) for धुनोतु नो.

English sense

Variant reading The texts read the last compound three ways: संसृताह्निकामदा, संसृता हि कामदा (she who is resorted to and indeed grants wishes) and संवृताह्निकामदा (surrounded by day, granting wishes).
