Vaiṣṇava stotra · as given in the Mantra Mahārṇava

विष्णुस्तोत्रम्

Vishnu Stotram (Avataras) — Viṣṇu praised in the forms he has taken

A hymn that goes through the forms of Viṣṇu in order. Each verse names one act: the Vedas taken back from the ocean, the earth held up during the churning, the earth lifted on a tusk, the pillar split by Narasimha, the three steps, the axe, the bridge to Laṅkā, the plough and the pestle, the Buddha, the Horse at the end of the age. The last two verses describe the lord himself, dark as a rain-cloud, lying on the ocean of milk, and say that the hymn is for pleasing him.
