A hymn of names of Tara, the goddess who carries across, among the Mahavidyas. Shiva tells it to Parvati as a secret. The names run through her forms (Ugratārā, Blue Sarasvatī, Kāmākhyā, Durgā and others), her marks and the things she loves, and the hymn closes with what reciting it brings.

तारिणी तरला तन्वी तारा तरुणवल्लरी ।
तीररूपा तरी श्यामा तनुक्षीणपयोधरा ॥ १ ॥

उसी को मंत्र की सिद्धि होती है, और मेरी भी सर्वोत्तम सिद्धि। हे महामाया, ऐसा ही होता है, सत्य है, सत्य है; इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं।

For him alone there is success in mantra, and my own success too, the highest. Great Māyā, it is so, truly, truly; there is no doubt.

जो संयमी होकर शनिवार या मंगलवार की रात को इसका पाठ करता है, उसे मंत्र की सिद्धि होती है और वह गणों के नेतृत्व का पद पाता है।

English sense

One who recites it at night, self-controlled, on a Saturday or a Tuesday, has success in mantra and gains the rank of a leader of the Gaṇas.

श्रद्धा से या बिना श्रद्धा के भी जो तारा के इस रहस्य का पाठ करता है, वह थोड़े ही समय में जीवित रहते हुए मुक्त होकर शिव के समान हो जाता है।

Whether with faith or without it, one who recites this secret hymn of Tārā soon becomes free while alive and like Śiva.

te kṛtārthā maheśāni mṛtyusaṃsāravartmanaḥ

सहस्रावर्तनात्देविपुरश्चर्याफलं लभेत्एवं सततयुक्ताः येध्यायंतः त्वाम् उपासतेते कृतार्थाः महेशानिमृत्युसंसारवर्त्मनः
हिन्दी अर्थ

हे देवी, हजार बार पाठ करने से पुरश्चरण का फल मिलता है। जो इस प्रकार निरंतर लगे रहकर तुम्हारा ध्यान करते और तुम्हारी उपासना करते हैं, हे महेशानी, वे कृतार्थ हो जाते हैं और मृत्यु तथा संसार के मार्ग से छूट जाते हैं।

English sense

By reciting it a thousand times, goddess, one gains the fruit of a full course of practice. Those who thus keep to it constantly, meditating on you and worshipping you, are fulfilled, great queen, and are freed from the road of death and rebirth.
