Shri Suktam — The Vedic hymn to Śrī
Verses 20, mostly anuṣṭubh metre Pāṭha Ṛgveda, Khila 2.6

The hymn to Śrī, also called Lakshmi, kept among the khilas, the supplementary hymns of the Ṛgveda. The worshipper asks Jātavedas, the fire, to bring her: golden, moon-bright, garlanded with lotuses, the one who never leaves. In the same breath he asks the fire to drive her elder sister Alakṣmī, hunger, thirst and want, out of the house. Fifteen ṛcs form the core recited everywhere; four more close the hymn in the khila text, and one verse after them tells what reciting it brings. It is chanted in Lakṣmī worship, at Diwali above all.

Jātavedas, bring me that Lakṣmī who never leaves. With her may I find gold in plenty, cows, maidservants and people.
