Pashupati Ashtakam — Eight verses to the lord of all creatures

A hymn with one plain refrain: worship the lord of Girijā, O people. Each verse adds a reason, from the drums of his attendants to the fact that no father, mother or brother can hold back time. It is sung to Shiva as Paśupati, the lord of every living being.

English sense

Meditate always on Maheśa. He is like a silver mountain, with the lovely moon as his crown. His body shines with jewelled ornaments. His hands hold an axe and a deer and show the signs of giving boons and of "do not fear". He is calm and kind. He sits on a lotus, praised on every side by the gods, and wears a tiger's skin. He is the first of all things and the seed of all things. He takes away every fear. He has five faces and three eyes.
