Mahalakshmi Ashtakam — Eight verses of Indra to Mahālakṣmī

Eight short verses, each closing on the same words, mahālakṣmi namo 'stu te — "Mahālakṣmī, I bow to you." Tradition puts them in the mouth of Indra, praying for the fortune he had lost, and places the hymn in the Padma Mahapuran. It is one of the most widely recited prayers to Lakshmi, short enough to say every morning.

नमस्तेऽस्तु महामाये श्रीपीठे सुरपूजिते ।
शङ्खचक्रगदाहस्ते महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥ १ ॥
