ललितापञ्चकम्

Lalita Panchakam — At dawn I remember the face, the hand, the feet and the names of Lalitā

A short dawn prayer in the form of a slow look. Each of the five verses opens with the word prātaḥ, at dawn, and takes up one thing: the lotus face with its smile and musk-mark, the creeper-like arms holding bow and arrows, the lotus feet that carry devotees across the ocean of life, the Goddess as the source of the world, and her holy names. Lalitā is the Tripurasundarī of the Shri Vidya tradition.

English sense

At dawn I worship the arms of Lalitā, creepers that give what is wished. Her fingers are like tender sprouts, shining with jewelled rings. She is splendid with bracelets and armlets of ruby and gold, and she holds the sugar-cane bow, the flower arrows and the goad.

Variant reading रक्ताङ्गुलीयलसदङ्गुलिपल्लवाढ्याम् … सृणिदधानाम् (fingers shining with red rings; the last word without the visarga). Some copies read the second line this way, and the last word as सृणिदधानाम् or सृणीदधानाम्.

English sense

At dawn I praise Lalitā, Bhavānī, the supreme gracious one. Her glory is known through the end of the Vedas, and her mercy is spotless. She is the cause of the world's making, ending and keeping, the lady of knowledge, far beyond the reach of the scriptures, speech and mind.
