Kartikeya Akshaya Kavacham (Umayamala) — The imperishable armour of Kārtikeya, for the life of a child

This kavaca is made for the protection of children. Each line gives a part of the body, or a dangerous place, to one of the many names of Kārtikeya, the army-leader. The last verses tell how the armour saved the sons of those who wore it. See also Kavach.

देव्युवाच — देवी ने कहा The goddess said

ये ये मम सुता जातास्ते ते कंसनिषूदिताः ।
कथं मे सन्ततिस्तिष्ठेत् ब्रूहि मे मुनिपुङ्गव ॥१॥

"Every son born to me has been slain by Kaṃsa. How can my line survive? Tell me, O best of sages."

May Pārvatī's son protect my skull, the peacock-rider my heart; may the spear-bearer protect my waist, the ender of Tāraka my thighs.

English sense

Oṃ. Thus, O good lady, the most wonderful armour has been told to you. Wearing it one obtains a very fine, long-lived son."

By the grace of the armour her son was Janārdana; and likewise the child of the other who wore it was unconquerable even by the gods.
