Vaiṣṇava stotra · one verse on the Bhāgavata

Eka Shloki Bhagavatam — The Bhāgavata in one verse

A single verse, said by those who cannot read the whole Bhāgavata in a day. It names the turns of the story in order: birth, childhood among the cowherds, the killing of Pūtanā, the lifting of Govardhana, the end of Kaṃsa and of the Kauravas, and the care of Kuntī's sons. The last line gives it its name: the nectar of the play of Krishna.

English sense

First, his birth from the womb of Devakī. Then growing up in the house of a cowherd woman. Then taking the life of Pūtanā and her tricks, and lifting up Govardhana. Then cutting down Kaṃsa, the killing of the Kauravas and others, and the care of Kuntī's sons. This is the Bhāgavata, as the Purāṇa tells it: the nectar of Kṛṣṇa's play.

Variant reading कुन्तीसुतां पालनम् and चैतद्भागवतम्, kuntīsutāṃ pālanam, caitadbhāgavatam (read by other printings: “Kuntī's sons” as two words, and “and this” in the last line)
