A hymn to Durga in her eight-syllable form, which Bhairava calls a limb of the Goddess herself and the king of hymns. After a verse on her form, seated on the buffalo on the pedestal of the nine suns, each verse names one seed-syllable (Bija Mantra) of her mantra, the tāra, the Māyā, the chakri, the dūrvā and others, and says what a practitioner who repeats it gains. The last verses say when to recite the hymn.

Now, O goddess, I shall tell the beautiful hymn to Durgā. It is made of the root mantra, it is divine, and it gives all learning.

यह पुण्यकारी है, दुर्गति को शांत करता है और साधकों को विजय देता है। यह दुर्गा का अपना अंग है, स्तोत्रों का राजा है, ऊँचे से भी ऊँचा।

English sense

It is meritorious, it quells misfortune, and it gives victory to practitioners. It is a limb of Durgā herself, the king of hymns, higher than the high.

हिन्दी अर्थ

तार बीज को मन्त्र-माला, शुभ बीज, दाँतों के बीच का बल, बाल-चन्द्र के भीतर मानकर ध्यान करे। इसका बार-बार स्मरण करते हुए ज्ञान का इच्छुक शीघ्र स्वर्ग जाता है, और अभीष्ट को वश में कर लेता है।

English sense

One should meditate on the syllable tāra as a garland of mantras, the good seed, the strength between the teeth, within the young moon. Remembering it again and again, the seeker of true knowledge quickly goes to heaven, and brings a desired one under his sway.
