Every citation against Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa
Every claim elsewhere on this site that stands on a verse of this text, graded by how well the passage actually carries it — including where a widely-kept practice or a popular telling turns out not to be what the text itself says.
2 citationsCustomary — the text does not say this
1A real, widely-kept practice or telling that this passage does not itself prescribe or narrate.
-
On waking, Rāvaṇa stepped over sleeping, unclothed women as he went out.
Sundara 9–11 shows the women asleep in disarray, and 18.3–6 shows Rāvaṇa waking and going out to the grove. Neither passage says he trampled or stepped over them.
Stated in the text
1The passage says this in so many words.
-
Rāvaṇa's house held princesses he had carried off by force.
9.70 says the opposite of most of them: none was won by force or loved another man, except Sītā.
