Chāndogya Upaniṣad
The long Upaniṣad of the Sāmaveda in eight parts. It begins with the chant itself, Om as the udgītha, and moves through meditations on the Sāman, the sun as honey and the teaching that all this is Brahman, the stories of Satyakāma and Upakosala, the five fires and the two paths after death, Uddālaka's lessons to Śvetaketu ending in "that you are", Nārada learning the infinite from Sanatkumāra, and the Self in the small space of the heart. Prapāṭhaka 1 प्रपाठक 1
The opening prapāṭhaka: meditations on Om as the udgītha, the sung heart of the Sāman, traced through the world and the body, with the stories of the gods and demons, of three experts debating the Sāman, of Uṣasti in a time of famine, and of the dogs' udgītha. प्रथम प्रपाठक: ॐ की उद्गीथ के रूप में उपासना, जो सामगान का गाया जाने वाला हृदय है, संसार और शरीर में दिखाई गई; साथ में देवों और असुरों की कथा, साम पर तीन ज्ञाताओं का संवाद, अकाल में उषस्ति की कथा और कुत्तों का उद्गीथ।

Meditations on the whole Sāman in its five and seven parts, found in the worlds, the seasons, the waters, animals and the senses; the three branches of dharma; and the syllable Om as the essence of all speech. सम्पूर्ण साम की पाँच और सात भागों में उपासना, जो लोकों, ऋतुओं, जल, पशुओं और इन्द्रियों में देखी गई; धर्म के तीन स्कन्ध; और ॐ सारी वाणी का सार।

The sun as the honey of the gods; the Gāyatrī and the light beyond heaven; Śāṇḍilya's teaching that all this is Brahman; the lasting chest of the universe; man as a sacrifice; and the mind and space meditated on as Brahman. सूर्य देवताओं का मधु; गायत्री और स्वर्ग से परे की ज्योति; शाण्डिल्य की शिक्षा कि यह सब ब्रह्म है; विश्व का अक्षय कोश; मनुष्य स्वयं एक यज्ञ; और मन और आकाश की ब्रह्म के रूप में उपासना।

Raikva with his cart and the teaching of the absorbers; Satyakāma, who told the truth about his birth and learned from a bull, the fire, a swan and a water bird; Upakosala, taught by the fires; and the atonements for the sacrifice. गाड़ी वाले रैक्व और संवर्ग की शिक्षा; सत्यकाम, जिसने अपने जन्म का सच बताया और बैल, अग्नि, हंस और जलपक्षी से सीखा; उपकोसल, जिसे अग्नियों ने सिखाया; और यज्ञ के प्रायश्चित्त।

Uddālaka teaches his son Śvetaketu: from one lump of clay all clay is known; in the beginning there was only Being; it became fire, water and food; and nine times over, that you are. उद्दालक अपने पुत्र श्वेतकेतु को सिखाते हैं: मिट्टी के एक ढेले से सारी मिट्टी जानी जाती है; आरम्भ में केवल सत् था; वह तेज, जल और अन्न बना; और नौ बार: वह तू है।

Nārada, learned in every science yet full of sorrow, comes to Sanatkumāra, who leads him step by step from name up to the infinite, the bhūman, where alone there is happiness. नारद, जो सब विद्याएँ जानकर भी शोक में हैं, सनत्कुमार के पास आते हैं, जो उन्हें नाम से आरम्भ करके क्रम से भूमा तक ले जाते हैं, और भूमा में ही सुख है।

The small space within the lotus of the heart that holds the whole world; the Self free from evil, age and death; Indra and Virocana's long stay with Prajāpati; and the student's return home. हृदय-कमल के भीतर का छोटा आकाश, जिसमें सारा संसार है; पाप, बुढ़ापे और मृत्यु से मुक्त आत्मा; इन्द्र और विरोचन का प्रजापति के पास लम्बा वास; और शिष्य का घर लौटना।
