बृहदारण्यकोपनिषत्
Bṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad
The great forest Upaniṣad of the White Yajurveda, the longest of the principal Upaniṣads, in six parts. It begins with the sacrificial horse as the universe and the Self that was alone in the beginning, and moves through the debates of Yājñavalkya at Janaka's court, his teaching to Maitreyī on the Self through which all is known, "not this, not this", the states of waking, dream and deep sleep, the three da's, the five fires and the rites of the householder. Our own translation, kaṇḍikā by kaṇḍikā.

प्रथमोऽध्यायः
Adhyāya 1 अध्याय 1
The opening adhyāya: the sacrificial horse seen as the whole universe; death creating the world and the fire; the gods' contest with the demons won by breath in the udgītha; the Self alone in the beginning, becoming man and woman and all creatures, and knowing itself as Brahman; the classes and dharma; the seven foods of the father; and name, form and action. प्रथम अध्याय: यज्ञ का अश्व सारे विश्व के रूप में; मृत्यु द्वारा संसार और अग्नि की रचना; उद्गीथ में प्राण से जीती गई देवों और असुरों की होड़; आरम्भ में अकेला आत्मा, जो पुरुष और स्त्री और सब प्राणी बना और स्वयं को ब्रह्म जाना; वर्ण और धर्म; पिता के सात अन्न; और नाम, रूप और कर्म।

Gārgya and Ajātaśatru on the person in the sun and in sleep; the infant breath in its seat; the two forms of Brahman and "not this, not this"; Yājñavalkya's farewell teaching to Maitreyī; the honey doctrine; and the line of teachers. गार्ग्य और अजातशत्रु का संवाद, सूर्य के पुरुष और नींद पर; अपने स्थान में बैठा शिशु-प्राण; ब्रह्म के दो रूप और "नेति नेति"; मैत्रेयी को याज्ञवल्क्य का विदाई-उपदेश; मधु-विद्या; और आचार्यों की परम्परा।

Adhyāya 3 अध्याय 3
The debates at King Janaka's court: Yājñavalkya answers Aśvala, Ārtabhāga, Bhujyu, Uṣasta, Kahola, Gārgī, Uddālaka on the inner controller, Gārgī again on the imperishable, and Śākalya on the gods and the Self. राजा जनक की सभा के शास्त्रार्थ: याज्ञवल्क्य अश्वल, आर्तभाग, भुज्यु, उषस्त, कहोल, गार्गी, अन्तर्यामी पर उद्दालक, अक्षर पर फिर गार्गी, और देवताओं और आत्मा पर शाकल्य को उत्तर देते हैं।

Adhyāya 4 अध्याय 4
Yājñavalkya teaches Janaka: the light of a person, waking, dream, deep sleep and death, the Self that is "not this, not this", the second teaching to Maitreyī, and the line of teachers. याज्ञवल्क्य जनक को सिखाते हैं: मनुष्य की ज्योति, जागना, स्वप्न, गहरी नींद और मृत्यु, "नेति नेति" आत्मा, मैत्रेयी को दूसरा उपदेश, और आचार्यों की परम्परा।

The contest of the senses and the supremacy of breath; Pravāhaṇa teaches Śvetaketu the five fires and the two paths; the mantha rite; the rites for conceiving a child; and the line of teachers. इन्द्रियों की होड़ और प्राण की श्रेष्ठता; प्रवाहण श्वेतकेतु को पञ्चाग्नि और दो मार्ग सिखाते हैं; मन्थ-कर्म; सन्तान-प्राप्ति के संस्कार; और आचार्यों की परम्परा।
