6.1
Whoever does the action that ought to be done without leaning on its fruit is a renouncer and a yogi too. Not the one who has merely given up the sacred fire, nor the one who has given up all action.
One who has conquered himself by himself is his own friend. But for one who has not conquered himself, his own self acts with hostility, like an enemy.
6.7
For one who has conquered himself and is at peace, the highest Self is ever present, in cold and heat, pleasure and pain, honour and dishonour.
The yogi who is content with knowledge and its realisation, unshaken, master of the senses, to whom a clod of earth, a stone and gold are the same, is called one in yoga.
6.9
One of equal mind towards well-wishers, friends and foes, the indifferent and the neutral, the hateful and kinsmen, the good and the wicked, stands out above all.
Always practising thus with mind controlled, the yogi reaches the peace that rests in me and ends in nirvāṇa.
6.16
Yoga is not for one who eats too much, nor for one who does not eat at all. It is not for one who sleeps too much, O Arjuna, nor for one who stays awake too much.
जिस अवस्था में योग के अभ्यास से निरुद्ध चित्त उपराम हो जाता है, और जिसमें अपने से आत्मा को देखता हुआ आत्मा में ही सन्तुष्ट रहता है;
There is a state in which the mind, restrained by the practice of yoga, comes to rest, and in which one sees the Self by the self and is content in the Self.
6.21
जिसमें वह उस अनन्त सुख को जानता है जो बुद्धि द्वारा ग्रहण होता है और इन्द्रियों से परे है; और जिसमें स्थित होकर वह तत्त्व से कभी विचलित नहीं होता;
In it he knows that boundless joy which is grasped by the intellect and lies beyond the senses, and once established in it, he never moves away from the truth.
6.22
Having gained it, he thinks no other gain greater, and established in it, he is not shaken even by heavy sorrow.
Know that state to be yoga: the breaking of the bond with sorrow. This yoga should be practised with determination and a mind that does not lose heart.
6.24
Let him give up completely all desires born of self-made plans, and restrain the host of senses from every side by the mind itself.
6.25
Then he should become still, slowly, slowly, with the intellect held by firmness. Making the mind rest in the Self, he should not think of anything else at all.
It is my view that yoga is hard to reach for one who is not self-controlled. But one who is self-controlled and strives can reach it by the right means.
O Kṛṣṇa, one who has faith but does not strive enough, whose mind strays from yoga, and who does not reach perfection in yoga: what end does he come to?
Reaching the worlds of those who do good and dwelling there for countless years, one who has fallen from yoga is born in the home of the pure and prosperous.
6.42
Or else he is born in a family of wise yogis. A birth like this is harder to gain in the world.
By that very former practice he is drawn on, even without meaning to be. Even one who only wishes to know yoga goes beyond the Veda's rites and their rewards.
The yogi is greater than ascetics. He is held greater than scholars too. The yogi is greater than those who perform rites for reward. So be a yogi, O Arjuna.
6.47
And of all yogis, the one full of faith who worships me with his inner self absorbed in me, I hold to be the most fully joined in yoga.
