See now, O conqueror of sleep, the whole world, with all that moves and does not move, standing in one place here in my body, and whatever else you wish to see.
11.8
But you cannot see me with these eyes of your own. I give you a divine eye. See my sovereign power.
Suppose there were suns by the thousand in the sky, every one of them risen at the same moment: their light might equal the light of that great being.
11.13
There, in the body of the God of gods, the son of Pāṇḍu then saw the whole world, divided in many ways, standing in one place.
11.14
Then Dhanañjaya, filled with wonder, his hair standing on end, bowed his head to the god and spoke with joined palms.
11.15
O God, in your body I see all the gods and the hosts of every kind of being: Brahmā, the lord, seated on the lotus, all the seers and the divine serpents.
11.16
I see you on every side, with many arms, bellies, mouths and eyes, of endless form. I see no end in you, no middle and no beginning, O Lord of all, O you whose form is all.
I see you wearing a crown, bearing a mace and a discus, a mass of light blazing on every side, hard to look at, bright all around as blazing fire and the sun, beyond measure.
11.18
You are the supreme imperishable, the one to be known. You are the final resting place of this universe. You are unchanging, the guardian of the eternal dharma. I hold you to be the eternal Person.
I see you without beginning, middle or end, of endless might, with endless arms, the moon and the sun your eyes, your mouth a blazing fire, scorching this universe with your own radiance.
The space between heaven and earth and all the directions are filled by you alone. Seeing this wondrous and terrible form of yours, O great one, the three worlds tremble.
11.21
These hosts of gods are entering into you. Some, afraid, praise you with joined palms. Hosts of great seers and perfected ones cry "May all be well!" and hymn you with rich hymns.
11.22
The Rudras and Ādityas, the Vasus and the Sādhyas, the Viśvedevas, the two Aśvins, the Maruts and the ancestors, hosts of gandharvas, yakṣas, asuras and perfected ones: all of them gaze at you in amazement.
Seeing your vast form, O mighty-armed, with many mouths and eyes, many arms, thighs and feet, many bellies, terrible with many tusks, the worlds tremble, and so do I.
11.24
Seeing you touching the sky, blazing, of many colours, with gaping mouths and huge blazing eyes, I am shaken to the core. I find no courage and no peace, O Viṣṇu.
11.25
Just seeing your mouths, terrible with tusks, like the fire at the end of time, I lose all sense of direction and find no comfort. Be gracious, O Lord of gods, O refuge of the world!
11.26
I see all these sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, with the hosts of kings, Bhīṣma, Droṇa, and that charioteer's son Karṇa, together with the chief warriors of our side too.
11.27
They are rushing into your fearful mouths, terrible with tusks. Some are seen caught between the teeth, their heads crushed to powder.
Just as moths rush at full speed into a blazing fire to their destruction, so the worlds too rush at full speed into your mouths to their destruction.
Devouring all the worlds on every side with your blazing mouths, you lick your lips. Your fierce rays fill the whole world with radiance and scorch it, O Viṣṇu.
11.31
Tell me, who are you, of such terrible form? I bow to you, O best of gods. Be gracious! I wish to know you, the first one, for I do not understand your purpose.
I am Time, grown strong, bringing the worlds to their end, and here I am at work destroying them. Even without you, none of the warriors standing in the opposing armies will live.
Therefore rise up and win glory. Conquer your enemies and enjoy a prosperous kingdom. They have already been slain by me. Be merely the instrument, O you who draw the bow with either hand.
11.34
Droṇa and Bhīṣma, Jayadratha and Karṇa, and the other brave warriors, already slain by me: kill them. Do not be troubled. Fight! You will conquer your rivals in battle.
Hearing these words of Keśava, the crowned Arjuna, trembling, his palms joined, bowed, and bowing low once more, overwhelmed with fear, spoke again to Kṛṣṇa in a choking voice.
11.36
It is right, O Hṛṣīkeśa, that the world rejoices and is filled with love at your praise; that the rākṣasas flee in fear in all directions; and that all the hosts of perfected ones bow to you.
11.37
And why should they not bow to you, O great one, who are greater even than Brahmā, the first creator? O endless one, O Lord of gods, O refuge of the world, you are the imperishable: what is, what is not, and what lies beyond both.
11.38
You are the first god, the ancient Person. You are the final resting place of this universe. You are the knower and the known, and the supreme abode. The universe is pervaded by you, O you of endless form.
You are Vāyu, Yama, Agni, Varuṇa and the moon. You are Prajāpati and the great-grandsire of all. To you I bow, I bow; a thousand times I bow to you, and once more, and still again, I bow, I bow to you.
11.40
I bow to you in front and behind; I bow to you on every side, O you who are all. Your strength is endless and your might boundless. You pervade all, and so you are all.
11.41
Thinking of you as a friend, not knowing this greatness of yours, I have rashly called you "O Kṛṣṇa, O Yādava, O friend", out of carelessness or even out of affection.
And whatever slight I gave you in jest, at play, at rest, sitting or eating, O Acyuta, when alone or in front of others: for all of that I beg forgiveness of you, who are beyond measure.
You are the father of the world, of all that moves and does not move. You are worthy of its worship, its teacher and the greatest. O you of matchless power, there is no one equal to you in the three worlds; how could there be anyone greater?
Therefore, bowing and laying my body down before you, I seek the grace of you, the Lord worthy of praise. As a father bears with a son, a friend with a friend, a lover with the beloved, so please bear with me, O God.
11.45
I am thrilled to have seen what was never seen before, yet my mind is shaken with fear. Show me that other form of yours, O God. Be gracious, O Lord of gods, O refuge of the world!
I wish to see you as before, wearing a crown, bearing a mace, discus in hand. O thousand-armed one, whose form is the universe, take that same four-armed form.
Out of grace, O Arjuna, I have shown you by my own power this supreme form, full of light, universal, endless and first, which no one but you has seen before.
11.48
Not by Vedas, sacrifices or study, not by gifts, not by rites, not by severe austerities can I be seen in such a form in the world of men by anyone but you, O hero of the Kurus.
11.49
Do not be afraid or bewildered at seeing this terrible form of mine. Free from fear and glad at heart, behold again that same form of mine.

Having spoken thus to Arjuna, Vāsudeva showed him his own form again. Becoming once more gentle in form, the great one comforted him in his fear.
