बिल्वाष्टकम्

Bilvashtakam — Eight verses on offering one bilva leaf

Sung at the liṅga with leaves in hand. The three-lobed Bilva leaf is likened to the three guṇas and the three eyes of Shiva, and each verse weighs a single leaf against huge gifts and sacrifices, then lets it win: one bilva leaf, offered to Śiva.

त्रिदलं त्रिगुणाकारं त्रिनेत्रं च त्रियायुधम् ।
त्रिजन्मपापसंहारं एकबिल्वं शिवार्पणम् ॥ १ ॥
