Verse 1

१I

नाहं देहो नेन्द्रियाण्यन्तरङ्गो
नाहङ्कारः प्राणवर्गो न बुद्धिः ।
दारापत्यक्षेत्रवित्तादिदूरः
साक्षी नित्यः प्रत्यगात्मा शिवोऽहम् ॥ १ ॥

nāhaṃ deho nendriyāṇyantaraṅgo
nāhaṅkāraḥ prāṇavargo na buddhiḥ |
dārāpatyakṣetravittādidūraḥ
sākṣī nityaḥ pratyagātmā śivo'ham ||

न अहं देहःन इन्द्रियाणिअन्तरङ्गःन अहङ्कारःप्राणवर्गःन बुद्धिःदारापत्यक्षेत्रवित्तादिदूरःसाक्षीनित्यःप्रत्यगात्माशिवः अहम्

हिन्दी अर्थ

मैं न शरीर हूँ, न इन्द्रियाँ, न भीतर का मन; न "मैं" का भाव, न प्राणों का समूह, न बुद्धि। मैं पत्नी, सन्तान, खेत, धन आदि से दूर हूँ। मैं साक्षी हूँ, नित्य हूँ, भीतर का आत्मा हूँ। मैं मंगलमय हूँ।

English sense

I am not the body, nor the senses, nor the mind within; not the sense of "I", not the group of life-breaths, not the intellect. I am far from wife, children, land, wealth and the like. I am the witness, the eternal, the Self within. I am the auspicious one.

२II

रज्ज्वज्ञानाद्भाति रज्जौ यथाहिः
स्वात्माज्ञानादात्मनो जीवभावः ।
आप्तोक्त्याऽहिभ्रान्तिनाशे स रज्जु-
र्जीवो नाहं देशिकोक्त्या शिवोऽहम् ॥ २ ॥

rajjvajñānādbhāti rajjau yathāhiḥ
svātmājñānādātmano jīvabhāvaḥ |
āptoktyā'hibhrāntināśe sa rajju-
rjīvo nāhaṃ deśikoktyā śivo'ham ||

रज्जु-अज्ञानात्भाति रज्जौ यथा अहिःस्वात्माज्ञानात्आत्मनि जीवभावःआप्तोक्त्याअहिभ्रान्तिनाशेसः रज्जुःजीवः न अहम्देशिकोक्त्याशिवः अहम्

हिन्दी अर्थ

रस्सी को न जानने से रस्सी में साँप दिखता है; उसी तरह अपने आत्मा को न जानने से आत्मा में अलग जीव होने का भाव दिखता है। जब किसी भरोसेमन्द की बात से साँप का भ्रम मिट जाता है, तो केवल रस्सी रह जाती है। वैसे ही गुरु के वचन से मैं जीव नहीं हूँ। मैं मंगलमय हूँ।

English sense

From not knowing the rope, a snake appears in the rope; in the same way, from not knowing one's own Self, the state of being a separate living being appears in the Self. When a trusted person's word ends the mistake about the snake, only the rope is left. So, by the teacher's word, I am not the living being. I am the auspicious one.

आभातीदं विश्वमात्मन्यसत्यम्
सत्यज्ञानानन्दरूपे विमोहात् ।
निद्रामोहात्स्वप्नवत्तन्न सत्यम्
शुद्धः पूर्णो नित्य एकः शिवोऽहम् ॥ ३ ॥

ābhātīdaṃ viśvamātmanyasatyam
satyajñānānandarūpe vimohāt |
nidrāmohātsvapnavattanna satyam
śuddhaḥ pūrṇo nitya ekaḥ śivo'ham ||

आभाति इदं विश्वम्आत्मनिसत्यज्ञानानन्दरूपेविमोहात्असत्यम्निद्रामोहात् स्वप्नवत्शुद्धः पूर्णः नित्यः एकःशिवः अहम्

यह जगत उस आत्मा में, जो सत्, ज्ञान और आनन्द है, भ्रम से दिखता है; यह झूठ है, जैसे नींद की मोहग्रस्त अवस्था में दिखने वाला स्वप्न। मैं शुद्ध हूँ, पूर्ण हूँ, नित्य हूँ और एक हूँ। मैं मंगलमय हूँ।

English sense

This world shows itself in the Self, which is being, knowing and joy, but from confusion; it is untrue, like a dream that comes from the confusion of sleep. I am pure, full, eternal and one. I am the auspicious one.

नाहं जातो न प्रवृद्धो न नष्टो
देहस्योक्ताः प्राकृताः सर्वधर्माः ।
कर्तृत्वादिश्चिन्मयस्यास्ति नाहं-
कारस्यैव ह्यात्मनो मे शिवोऽहम् ॥ ४ ॥

nāhaṃ jāto na pravṛddho na naṣṭo
dehasyoktāḥ prākṛtāḥ sarvadharmāḥ |
kartṛtvādiścinmayasyāsti nāhaṃ-
kārasyaiva hyātmano me śivo'ham ||

न अहं जातः न प्रवृद्धः न नष्टःदेहस्य उक्ताः प्राकृताः सर्वधर्माःकर्तृत्वादिःचिन्मयस्य न अस्तिअहङ्कारस्य एवआत्मनः मेशिवः अहम्

हिन्दी अर्थ

मैं न जन्मा हूँ, न बढ़ा हूँ, न नष्ट होता हूँ; शरीर के बारे में कहे गए सब स्वाभाविक धर्म शरीर के हैं। करने का भाव आदि चेतना-रूप आत्मा में नहीं हैं; वे केवल "मैं" के भाव के हैं, मेरे आत्मा के नहीं। मैं मंगलमय हूँ।

English sense

I am not born, I have not grown, I do not perish; all the natural qualities that are told of the body belong to the body. Doing and the rest are not in the one made of awareness; they belong only to the sense of "I", not to my Self. I am the auspicious one.

मत्तो नान्यत्किञ्चिदत्रास्ति विश्वं
सत्यं बाह्यं वस्तु मायोपक्लृप्तम् ।
आदर्शान्तर्भासमानस्य तुल्यं
मय्यद्वैते भाति तस्माच्छिवोऽहम् ॥ ५ ॥

matto nānyatkiñcidatrāsti viśvaṃ
satyaṃ bāhyaṃ vastu māyopaklṛptam |
ādarśāntarbhāsamānasya tulyaṃ
mayyadvaite bhāti tasmācchivo'ham ||

मत्तः न अन्यत् किञ्चित् अत्र अस्ति विश्वम्सत्यं बाह्यं वस्तुमायोपक्लृप्तम्आदर्शान्तर्भासमानस्य तुल्यम्मयि अद्वैते भातितस्मात्शिवः अहम्

हिन्दी अर्थ

इस जगत में मुझसे अलग कुछ नहीं है। बाहर की जो चीज़ सच लगती है, वह माया की रची हुई है; दर्पण के भीतर दिखने वाले प्रतिबिम्ब की तरह वह मुझ अद्वैत में दिखती है। इसलिए मैं मंगलमय हूँ।

English sense

Nothing in this world is apart from me. The outward thing that seems real is made up by illusion; like what shines inside a mirror, it shows itself in me, the one without a second. So I am the auspicious one.
