Breaking it after one of them ends is the lesser rule. Without the Viṣṇu-chain conjunction, break the fast on the thirteenth, after both have ended. With it, one has kept both fasts together on the earlier day. On the later day, if the twelfth lasts longer than the Śravaṇa star, let Śravaṇa pass and break the fast in the twelfth. If on the day of breaking the fast Śravaṇa lasts longer than the twelfth, still break it in the twelfth. For a fault is declared in letting the twelfth pass when breaking the Ekādaśī fast. Here there is no waiting for one of them to end. Even then, if possible, leave out the middle part of Śravaṇa, of about twenty ghaṭīs, and then break the fast. For example: eleventh 30, Uttarāṣāḍhā 29; twelfth 25, Śravaṇa 29. Here keep both fasts together on the earlier day. On the next day leave out the nine ghaṭīs left of Śravaṇa's middle part.
